A EuroIntervention state-of-the-art on recanalisation of chronic total occlusions with a review of overall clinical benefits, strategies, tools and techniques as well as a look at training and education to enlarge the field of competent operators and encourage the expanded use of PCI for CTOs. In coronary interventions: the open-label TEATE trial exploring the use of bicarbonates to change urine alkalinisation with the possibility of helping control contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI); treating stent underexpansion using the novel intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) treatment, the CRUNCH registry; from the SWEDEHEART registry, a look at the timing of coronary angioplasty in the assessment of patients with non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS). In interventions for valvular disease: exploring the novel filtration device, the ProtEmbo Cerebral Protection System, in TAVI patients who otherwise might be at risk of stroke.
