EAPCI Focus on the EAPCI Scientific Committee at the ESC 2015

An interview with the Chairman, Jean-Philippe Collet

Jean-Philippe Collet, Chairman of the EAPCI Scientific Committee

What is the task of the committee?

Together with co-chairs, Giulio Guagliumi and Christoph Naber, it is the committee’s task to provide visibility of our association by preparing high quality, interactive and educational sessions for the upcoming ESC congresses. The process for each ESC congress actually starts over a year before each meeting. First, the EAPCI sends “a call for sessions” to its members. Hereafter, the submissions are graded and the best are submitted to the ESC Congress Programme Committee (CPC) for validation and approval. For this year’s congress in London, almost 75% of our proposals have been accepted.

What can we expect at this year’s ESC congress?

Obviously the standout session from an EAPCI perspective will be “Hot topics in interventional cardiology 2015”, covering TAVI, DAPT, primary PCI and renal denervation (Village 6, Chisinau, 30 Aug 16:30 - 18:00). Besides this, there are joint sessions with, amongst others, the EHRA. Also, within villages 3, 4 and 5, we have many sessions that were proposed and are chaired by EAPCI members. Actually, all villages are arranged by topic as this is more convenient for the attendees. Another highlight of this year’s ESC will be the release of new guidelines and, in particular, the new NSTE-ACS guidelines. The high representation and contributions of EAPCI members in this paper has been a great success.

Looking forward, we have already started work on ESC 2016 since we will meet in London for the review of the session proposals for 2016 which have already been ranked this summer.
