EAPCI focus on the Scientific Documents Committee: an interview with the Chair, Felix Mahfoud

What is the role of the Committee?

Along with my Co-Chair, Anna Franzone, and EAPCI Scientific Documents Committee members, our role is to develop high-quality scientific documents, consensus statements, and position papers. These documents aim to support healthcare professionals in the field of interventional cardiology by providing evidence-based recommendations, promoting best practices, and advancing patient care.

How does the Committee benefit the community?

The Committee benefits the interventional cardiology community by offering guidance on clinical practice, fostering knowledge dissemination, facilitating the adoption of best practices, and identifying unmet needs. The documents produced serve as a reliable source of information for healthcare professionals, helping them make informed decisions and improve patient outcomes.

How does the Committee work with the other EAPCI Committees?

The Scientific Documents Committee collaborates closely with other EAPCI Committees, including the Accreditation, Training and Certification, Nurses & Allied Professionals, Young, Research Initiatives & Innovation, and Congress Committees. This collaboration ensures that scientific documents are aligned with educational initiatives, training programmes, and other key activities within EAPCI. The Committees work together to identify relevant topics and ensure that the produced documents address the needs of the broader community.

What are the key projects for your term?

We aim to develop new high-quality documents on emerging topics in interventional cardiology. These projects focus on addressing current challenges, advancing innovation, and providing practical recommendations for clinical practice. Additionally, the Committee aims to update existing documents to ensure they remain relevant and evidence based. We have implemented a structured review process for scientific documents and applications to maintain the highest standards of quality and transparency. The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Scientific Documents Committee (SDoC) is the governing body coordinating the development of all official documents produced by the ESC Associations, Councils, and Working Groups. EAPCI is represented by the past Chair of the EAPCI Scientific Documents Committee, Giulio Stefanini, on the ESC SDoC, thereby allowing close collaboration and merging of relevant topics between EAPCI and other ESC Associations, Working Groups and Councils.

How can EAPCI members become involved in the work of the Committee?

EAPCI members can become involved in the work of the Scientific Documents Committee by suggesting topics, providing feedback on drafts, and engaging in discussions during workshops or meetings. Additionally, members can volunteer for specific projects or express interest in collaborating through official EAPCI communication channels.
