EAPCI focus on the Congress Committee: an interview with the Chair, Valeria Paradies

What is the role of the Committee?

Along with my Co-Chair, Mirvat Alasnag, and the other committee members, the EAPCI Congress Committee plays a pivotal role in ensuring the representation and dissemination of EAPCI’s mission during major cardiovascular congresses. The Committee bridges the gap between EAPCI’s scientific output and the global interventional cardiology community by designing high-quality sessions that highlight recent advancements, our core curricula, scientific documents, and educational materials.

How does the Committee benefit the community?

The Committee fosters the dissemination of cutting-edge EAPCI content − including scientific guidelines, core curricula, and position statements − through thoughtfully designed congress sessions. By doing so, we enhance education, facilitate global collaboration, and bring the latest research to clinical practice, ultimately benefiting healthcare professionals and patients worldwide.

How does the Committee work with the other EAPCI Committees?

We work closely with other EAPCI Committees, such as the Scientific Documents, National Cardiac Societies (NCS) and International Affairs and Partnership Committees, as well as those within the Education and Membership Pillars, to ensure alignment of our content and objectives. This synergy allows us to amplify the impact of EAPCI's work by showcasing its multidisciplinary efforts during international congresses as well as promoting EAPCI joint sessions in European Society of Cardiology (ESC) countries during their national meetings

What are the key projects you are working on during your term?

The key projects include the following:
• Increasing the visibility and dissemination of EAPCI content by incorporating scientific documents and core curricula into congress sessions.
• Strengthening collaboration with NCS and affiliated countries to expand EAPCI’s reach and membership base, promoting EAPCI joint sessions at national meetings.
• Designing congress sessions that are aligned with recent or upcoming EAPCI publications to ensure the relevance and timeliness of presented topics.

How can EAPCI members become involved in the work of the Committee?

EAPCI members can become involved in the following ways:

• Contributing to the creation and dissemination of EAPCI scientific documents and educational materials.
• Suggesting innovative ideas for congress sessions that align with EAPCI’s objectives.
• Representing EAPCI in collaborative projects with NCS and affiliated countries.
• Participating in EAPCI joint sessions at congresses in ESC countries to broaden awareness and engagement with the society’s mission.
• Supporting the development and delivery of EAPCI-endorsed local courses tailored to the educational needs of healthcare professionals.
Through active involvement, members can help the Congress Committee achieve its mission of advancing interventional cardiology on a global scale, promoting the inclusivity of members in EAPCI joint sessions.
