Cardiology without borders: creating connections, enabling communities, building networks

Since its origins as a Working Group of the ESC, the EAPCI has always been committed to communicating with cardiologists and health professionals outside its speciality. To reach an increasingly diverse and international audience involves the maximisation of all aspects of communication from the annual meeting of the association, EuroPCR, to EuroIntervention, to the Association’s presence on the ESC website or on PCRonline.

In the September edition of EuroIntervention, the Website and Communications Committee once more reiterated these goals: to improve communication, interaction and the exchange of knowledge in an “increasingly…digital world” and reach out beyond the membership of the EAPCI. To support this desire to expand access to information, Europa Digital & Publishing and the Europa Group have been privileged partners of the EAPCI. Our website, PCRonline, with an established reputation for the quality of its content and its level of interactivity, plays a pivotal role.

Today, going beyond the confines of a single form of communication is essential in order to touch the widest audience of interest. This is why, in addition to its active presence on all the major social media sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram) used to engage the interventional cardiology community “across borders”, PCRonline offers a multimodal, clinically dedicated platform providing a wealth of information, creating a virtual network of communities interested in different aspects of our speciality. Features such as the EAPCI “Joint Young EAPCI/PCR Journal Club”, the possibility of consulting, reading and sharing cases, links to past scientific meetings, press releases from industry, video interviews on hot topics – all this enhanced content provides the basis for a two-way communication that involves members and non-members of the EAPCI, further weaving the life of the association into the world beyond its membership.

Our world is changing at an ever-faster rate, with digital networks that are bringing about pervasive changes to our way of working and communicating. The EAPCI, with its integrated relationship with PCRonline, is in a unique position to share and communicate on scientific knowledge not only with its members, but beyond, with the aim of improving patient outcomes for one and for all.

Ronnie Lassiaille, member of the EAPCI Website & Communication Committee
