EAPCI Fellows Course
Since the founding of our association, one of our key goals has been to promote better training and education for our young and future interventional cardiology fellows. The global vision of the EAPCI offers a comprehensive perspective that ensures the highest quality in the various courses and training we endorse.
Today, the offering for fellows is varied. Our official course, EuroPCR, is devoted to communicating information and knowledge about our speciality. Our association has created a special committee dedicated to – and managed by – the young interventionalists themselves, called “New Initiatives for Young Interventionalists” (NIFYI). Working closely with the “Young”, we have developed a special track during EuroPCR with programmes of specific interest to this group of emerging specialists. We have also worked closely in the creation of PCR Seminars, which offer a range of topics of interest, and now the EAPCI is presenting a two-day Fellows Course, to take place on the 11th and 12th of July at the European Heart House, the centre for our parent organisation, the European Society of Cardiology (ESC).
The programme for this course has been created in collaboration with the Board of the EAPCI along with Gregory Ducrocq and Davide Capodanno, the chair and co-chair, respectively, of NIFYI. The course is designed to take advantage of all the sources of information in use today, while offering a new and complementary perspective for young Fellows in interventional cardiology.
A new, innovative forum for education
The goal of July’s Fellows Course will be to offer the participants the latest information and news touching on all major topics in interventional cardiology. By choosing to have the course take place at the European Heart House (EHH) in Sophia Antipolis, France, we will allow our participating fellows the opportunity of being introduced – perhaps for the first time – to the wide variety of services provided by the Heart House, the ESC and the EAPCI, in terms of education and community. This Fellows Course will bring together young interventionalists from all EAPCI/ESC member countries in an open forum.
The Fellows Course itself is part of a long tradition in European interventional cardiology. Carlo Di Mario created a course in London several years ago and, every December, Darius Dudek organises an EAPCI-endorsed Fellows Course in Cracow, Poland. This new Fellows Course at the Heart House in July will offer a different perspective from existing educational events. This course will facilitate the communication between the young fellows, the EAPCI and the invited speakers, and will afford all participants an opportunity to explore the problems and questions arising from training in different countries. The course will allow for a lively exchange of experience and the creation of professional links, which will form the future of our speciality and our professional organisations.
Another way of learning: complementary, exhaustive, challenging
The EAPCI Fellows Course is an important undertaking for the association and of great value to all those who participate. Rather than focusing on skills, this specific course will be more academic and is, from its conception, designed to be perfectly complementary with the PCR/EAPCI textbook and the ESC e-Learning platform. It will enhance the ongoing work that fellows perform in their individual training programmes and hospitals, and expose them to the very best European thought leaders who will be present.
