EAPCI Focus on EAPCI training and research grants 2013
The European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) offers Training and Research Grants of 25,000 € to provide an opportunity for specialised research or clinical training in the field of interventional cardiology. During EuroPCR 2013, Michael Haude, the Chairman of the EAPCI Training and Fellowship Committee, announced the awardees of the 2013 EAPCI grants.

Elena Guerra of Italy was awarded a research grant at the host centre Deutsches Herzzentrum Munchen, Munich, Germany under the supervision of Adnan Kastrati. Her topic is intracoronary stenting and angiographic results using OCT. Biosensors have provided an unrestricted educational grant for this work.
Ramon Rodriguez of Spain received a training grant at the host centre Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, The Netherlands under the supervision of Peter de Jaegere. He will work on paravalvular aortic regurgitation after TAVI and aortic root calcification. Edwards Lifesciences have provided the unrestricted educational grant supporting this.
Ernst Spitzer, also of Spain, has been awarded a research grant at the host centre Bern University Hospital, Bern, Switzerland under the supervision of Stephan Windecker. His topic is bioresorbable scaffolds for the treatment of in-stent restenosis. Terumo Europe has provided the unrestricted educational grant.
Hamza Duygu of Turkey was awarded a training grant at the host centre San Raffaele Ospital, Milan, Italy under the supervision of Azeem Latib. He will be considering OCT and bioresorbable scaffolds. Medtronic has provided the unrestricted educational grant for his programme.
Stylianos Pyxaras of Greece received a training grant at the host centre Gemeinschaftskrankenhaus Bonn, Germany under the supervision of Ulrich Gerckens. His topic is the role of von Willebrand factor and ADAMTS-13 in aortic stenosis and TAVI. Medtronic has provided an unrestricted educational grant for this work.

The “most downloaded paper” award went to France’s Martial Hamon for his consensus paper on radial PCI. The award for “the best EuroIntervention reviewer” went to Michael Joner of Germany.
