Vein bypass surgery versus endovascular treatment for chronic limb threatening ischemia

BASIL 2
Objective
to compare the effectiveness of vein bypass with endovascular treatment for therapy of chronic limb threatening ischemia due to atherosclerotic disease
Study
open-label multicentre randomised trial
Population
patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia due to atherosclerosis requiring an infra-popliteal revascularisation procedure
Endpoints
amputation-free survival as time to first major amputation or death of any cause
Conclusion
endovascular treatment for chronic limb threatening ischemia was associated with a better amputation-free survival compared to vein bypass procedure
