Objective
to report the 5-year clinical outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) as compared with surgical aortic valve replacement (Sapiens XT value system)
Study
prospective, multicentre, randomised non-inferiority study
Population
patients with severe aortic stenosis and intermediate surgical risk (predicted surgical mortality of 4% to 8% at 30 days)
Endpoints
death from any cause or disabling stroke
Conclusion
there was no significant difference of 5-year rate of death or disabling stroke between surgery or TAVR in patients with severe aortic stenosis at intermediate surgical risk
