Routine ultrasonography guidance for femoral vascular access for cardiac procedures

UNIVERSAL
Objective
to determine whether routinely using ultrasound for femoral arterial access for coronary angiography/PCI reduces bleeding or vascular complications
Study
multicentre, open-label, prospective randomised clinical trial
Population
all adults referred for a femoral approach catheterisation/PCI except STEMI
Endpoints
composite of BARC 2,3,5 bleeding and major vascular complications within 30 days
Conclusion
routine use of ultrasonography for femoral access did not reduce the primary events of bleeding or vascular complications
