Catheter-based renal denervation to reduce blood pressure

SPYRAL HTN-OFF MED Pivotal
Objective
to assess the efficacy of catheter-based renal denervation to reduce blood pressure in the absence of anti hypertensive medication in a sham-controlled trial
Study
prospective, single-blind, sham-controlled multicentre trial
Population
patients with office systolic blood pressure from 150 mmHg to less than 180 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of at least 90 mmHg. Combined data from previous pilot trial (80) with this trial (n=251) using a Bayesian study design
Endpoints
baseline-adjusted change in 24-h systolic blood pressure from baseline to 3months after the procedure
Conclusion
catheter-based renal denervation is superior to sham procedure to reduce systolic blood pressure in patients without antihypertensive medications
