14. Renal denervation

Alcohol renal denervation for hypertension

TARGET BP-OFF Med
Objective
to demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of alcohol mediated renal denervation (RDN) to lower blood pressure compared to sham procedure in the absence of antihypertensive medications
Study
randomised, blinded sham-controlled trial
Population
mean office SBP 140-180mm Hg and mean DBP ≥ 90 mm Hg
Endpoints
change in mean 24-hour systolic BP at 8 weeks. Mace up to 30 days
Conclusion
alcohol-mediated RDN was safe but was not associated with significant BP lowering compared to SHAM
