14. Renal denervation

Alcohol-Mediated Renal Denervation effects on blood pressure

TARGET BP I
Objective
To assess the safety and effectiveness of alcohol-mediated renal denervation in lowering blood pressure compared to medication alone
Study
Assessor and patient blinded, randomized, sham procedure-controlled trial
Population
Patients with uncontrolled hypertension despite 2-5 antihypertensive medications
Endpoints
Primary efficacy endpoint was the change in mean 24-hour ambulatory SBP from baseline to 3 months post-procedure
Conclusion
A significant reduction in 24-hour ambulatory SBP following alcohol-mediated renal denervation was observed. A large placebo effect was observed in the sham control group.
